Santa Barbara, CA — The Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club proudly commemorates Dr. Madison F. Richardson’s extraordinary 45-year journey within our esteemed community. Dr. Richardson, a renowned otolaryngology specialist and 3-goal polo player, has left an indelible mark on our club and the sport of polo.
A Thrilling Path to Polo
Dr. Richardson’s passion for adventure led him to the world of polo. From flying acrobatic airplanes to racing cars and even running with the bulls in Spain, he has fearlessly embraced life’s exhilarating experiences. Growing up on his family’s Texas cattle ranch, he developed a deep love for horses. Riding became second nature, and he soon discovered polo’s allure.
A Remarkable Career
After moving to California, Dr. Richardson pursued his education, following in the footsteps of his father and uncles as doctors. His unwavering focus paid off, and he eventually reached a 3-goal handicap in polo. With 34 horses under his care, he played year-round, splitting his time between the desert and Santa Barbara
A Legacy of Service
Dr. Richardson’s commitment extends beyond the polo field. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War, caring for helicopter pilots who faced immense risks daily. Their camaraderie and spirit left a lasting impression on him, shaping his approach to life and sport
